BMW Z3 Light Reset Hack
Tuesday, August 29th, 2006I found the following post on the Roadfly BMW Z3 boards about resetting the service lights without the expensive electronic gadget. It sounds interesting and it is definitely risky because you have the potential of shorting out expensive electronics. That’s definitely hacking for you, it’s about the finesse, not just brute strength.
Remember kids (young and old): I don’t know if this works. I also don’t know that you aren’t a complete, utter waste of Oxygen and/or you are a complete, utter RETARD. You try this at your own risk, not mine.

For cars with the 15-PIN diagnostic connector):
First: Connect the clip end of the jumper tool to a good ground in the area of the diagnostic connector. Connect the pin end of the jumper tool to pin seven (7) of the diagnostic connector.
Second: Enter the car and turn the ignition switch to position two (2) [Do NOT start car] for the specified time. Three (3) seconds to reset the oil service lights. Twelve (12) seconds to reset the inspection service lights.
For cars with the 20-PIN data link connector:
First: Turn the ignition switch to position two (2). [Do NOT Start car].
Second: Connect the clip end of the jumper tool to a good ground in the area of the data link connector. Connect the other end of the wire to pin seven (7) of the data link connector and remove it after the appropriate time, depending on which reset you are doing. Three (3) seconds to reset the oil service lights. Twelve (12) seconds to reset the inspection service lights.
